From Couch to 600 Miles

It is late winter here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The only way to get my training started is to go to the mall. When the weather is better, I plan to walk outdoors.
I sold my bike last summer, thinking that I will not bike again. But here I am, promised my brother Milo to celebrate his big birthday. I will get a Giant Defy 5 in April and begin training!

Flashback 2011

Introduction

I think biking is in our Chan's family blood stream.

In 2011, Ester, Milo and myself embarked a 5 day 156 km bike ride along the eastern coast of the beautiful island of Taiwan.

The next year, we invited our other brother Ivan and did another biking reunion.

We enjoyed the time off from work. We also enjoyed our reunion. It was reunion because I live in USA. Ester lives in Taiwan. Ivan and Milo live in the Philippines.

So it has been three years since our last trip. This year, Milo is celebrating his 50th birthday. He invited us for the ultimate biking experience in Taiwan. A 900 km or 600 miles bike ride around the island.

Even though I am not in the best of shape. I agreed to join. There was a popular saying in Taiwan about the bike tour. "There are things in life that if you do not do it now, it will not happen in the rest of your life." For me, at age 53, it is the best time to do it. There will be many reasons not to do it. But only one great reason to do. It is now or never!
